Junior Duke Award
In December 2024, we launched our Junior Duke Award which all children from Year 1 to Year 6 have the chance to take part in. We are really excited to start this programme which has fantastic links to our school values: Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
What is the Junior Duke Award?
The Junior Duke is an international award aimed at increasing children’s independence, confidence and resilience by giving them a non-academic platform on which to feel success and achievement.
We know that as busy parents, it is sometimes hard to remember to give children space and time to develop their life skills as it’s quicker and less messy to do things ourselves. But we strongly believe that this is something that we need to invest time into, otherwise when will they learn?
Inclusive
The Junior Duke Award has been designed to be inclusive. Every student, whatever their background, will benefit from the confidence and competence that the challenges develop.
Whilst high academic achievers may take on the Award to push their knowledge and skill base even further, pupils with more practical strengths love that the Award provides a different challenge to normal school academia. It’s special to watch how motivated all the children are to get stuck in and cheer each other on.
Challenges
To complete any level of the Junior Duke, each child must complete a selection of the challenges from the correct level. Children will be given a set amount of time to complete their challenges and these will then be awarded at the end of the school year in a special recognition assembly where parents are invited to celebrate this too. This public celebration gives children their moment of glory and reward the effort they have put in to complete their award.
